Impoundment Restoration Evaluation and Sediment Elevation Monitoring Final Report
Donnelly M and Walters L. Impoundment Restoration Evaluation and Sediment Elevation Monitoring Final Report. Research Permit and Reporting System
In the northern Indian River Lagoon, 20 mosquito impoundments were restored between 1999-2010 by removing dikes blocking tidal flow. The purpose of this study was to evaluate ecosystem recovery at restored impoundments. We documented recovery of abiotic and biotic variables, including natural wetland elevations, sediment accretion, and natural regeneration of native plant communities providing habitat for a diverse assemblage of fiddler crab and bird species utilizing the restored habitat.
