One of California Department of Fish and Wildlife's main objectives to provide quality angling opportunities for the general public. A popular fishery with anglers concerns the pursuit of Kokanee salmon, landlocked Sockeye salmon (Oncorhynchus nerka). Whiskeytown Lake located just west of Redding, California has a robust Kokanee fishery. CDFW goal is to take salmon eggs annually at a Whiskeytown's creeks to be used through out California.
