Does N deposition mitigate ozone injury in Jeffrey pine?

Bytnerowicz A, Esperanza A, Ballenger L, Tausz M, Grulke NE. Does N deposition mitigate ozone injury in Jeffrey pine?. Research Permit and Reporting System

This project was set up in 1998 in Sequoia National Park to test for the effects of soil water availability (mesic and xeric) and nitrogen (N) position (background and amended) on Jeffrey pine health and resistance to Jeffrey pine beetle. The greatest mortality occurred in xeric control (decadal mortality, 23%), and the least mortality was in the mesic control (3%). Amending N increased mortality in mesic microsites, but decreased mortality in xeric sites relative to background N.
