Summary of findings from JPL/NASA VEREX I deployment to Kilauea Crater, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park
Pieri DC. Summary of findings from JPL/NASA VEREX I deployment to Kilauea Crater, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Research Permit and Reporting System
In February 2017, a JPL/NASA/Univ. Costa Rica/UCLA team deployed small unmanned aircraft Kilauea Summit in the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, in cooperation with the United States Geological Survey and National Park Service as part of our Volcanic Emissions Retrieval Experiment (VEREX I). We demonstrated that in situ volcanogenic gas sampling can be effectively accomplished with small free-flying and tethered airborne platforms, providing data not obtainable by other means.
