This report provides architectural data about fences in Appomattox Court House village. Most of the data is from photographs and cards in the park files. From this, a fairly accurate reconstruction of fences around the McLean House and in front of the Tavern is possible. The report notes that further study is needed before all fences in the area can be reconstructed, and a few may have to be conjectural due to a lack of available information. Fences during the historic period were of two kinds: post and rail, or post and plank (also called post and board). The report describes fencing location, material, and construction. Illustrations and drawings are included that provide evidence of the historic fences.
