This document contains the administrative and historical data for three outbuilding structures associated with the McLean House: the McLean Ice House, Kitchen, and Slave Quarters. On April 9, 1865, General Robert E. Lee surrendered the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia to General Ulysses S. Grant, marking an end to the Civil War. This meeting occurred in the Appomattox Court House village in the private home of Wilmer McLean. The three structures addressed by this report were planned to be reconstructed to their original appearance of April 9, 1865 in order to contribute to the historic scene. The report notes the plan to refurbish the detached McLean Kitchen, while the Ice House and Slave Quarters would be exterior exhibits. For each structure, available historical evidence is followed by a set of conclusions. Historic photographs are included.
