The Indo-Pacific lionfish established in the western Atlantic Ocean several decades ago, but has lately expanded at an astounding rate throughout the greater Caribbean region. Lionfish first invaded St. Croix USVI in 2008 and have shown a rapid increase in abundance over the past few years. The ongoing invasion of Indo-Pacific lionfish (Pterois volitans/miles) is now a major threat to marine ecosystems and livelihoods across the Caribbean region.
