Acute mountain sickness (AMS) is a condition that results from exposure to high altitude, and can be problematic for recreationalists and professionals alike. No certain link between numerous demographic factors and AMS has been established, so it is thought there may be a genetic link. In this study, we collected demographic, genetic, and AMS data from mountaineers at altitude (Camp Muir, 10,000 ft.) We found a significant link with the ACE gene and susceptibility to AMS.
