ABSTRACT: This review of the Spargnophilidae summarizes the global distribution of this primarily North American earthworm family. All known and available collection records of the 15 species and two subspecies representing the two genera (Sparganophilus and Areco) in this family are included, with distribution maps for those 11 species and two subspecies in the genus Sparganophilus occurring in North America. Sparganophilus komareki, Sp. pearsei and Sp. tennesseensis are reported for the first time from Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Sp. komareki is also reported for the first time fromthe state ofNorth Carolina. Comments on recent synonymies discussed in the literature are presented.
