Characterization of Microplastic Pollution in the Potomac and Anacostia Rivers
Pondell CR. Characterization of Microplastic Pollution in the Potomac and Anacostia Rivers. Research Permit and Reporting System
Microplastic pollution is a growing concern as we begin to see the extent of our impact on the environment. The purpose of this study is to characterize microplastic pollution near its human source. Water and sediment samples were collected in March 2017 from Fletcher's Cove on the Potomac River and from Anacostia Park on the Anacostia River. Microplastic concentrations in both water and sediment were higher in samples collected from the Anacostia River than they were in the Potomac River.
