BRAILLE Field Campaign I at Lava Beds National Monument, November 2017
Blank JG. BRAILLE Field Campaign I at Lava Beds National Monument, November 2017. Research Permit and Reporting System
This is the beginning of a 3-year NASA-funded project, and most of us are based at the NASA Ames Research Center. We conducted a 5-day field campaign to Lava Beds National Monument, in N. California. We worked in 3 caves, collecting samples for later analysis (microbiology, geochemistry/mineralogy, water, lipid geochemistry). We collected LIDAR and spectral imaging data of the cave walls and evaluated ingress strategy for deployment of a NASA rover in Valentine Cave in subsequent field seasons.
