Soil samples were collected from a wide diversity of environments in and around Volcanoes National Park in Hawaii. They were transported back to Florida Southern College in Lakeland, FL. Bacteria were isolated from the soil and screened for their ability to produce antibiotics inhibiting common antibiotic-resistant organisms of health concern, known as the ESKAPE pathogens. Twenty different antibiotic-producing bacteria were isolated and identified.
