The National Park Service (NPS) Geologic Resources Division held a GRI scoping meeting for Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore on June 30, 2010, at the park headquarters in Empire, Michigan. Geologic scoping meetings generate an evaluation of the adequacy of existing geologic maps for resource management, provide an opportunity to discuss park-specific geologic management issues and, if possible, include a site visit with local experts. Meeting discussions also highlight distinctive geologic features and processes and identify potential mapping, monitoring, and research needs.
