The Charles Sweeney Cabin (ca. 1840) played a role in the surrender events at Appomattox Court House, Virginia on April 9, 1865. Additionally, it is architecturally significant as an example of the vernacular one story and loft "hall" type cabin once common in rural Virginia. The high integrity of the cabin's fabric adds to its significance. This report provides a description of the physical fabric for the restoration/interpretation. The proposed work on the structure includes the replacement in-kind of all decayed or deteriorating original fabric, restoration of missing structural elements (roofing, foundation piers, and miscellaneous millwork), and removal of modern fabric. The fabric analysis includes photographs and drawings.
