The project will (1) reconstruct the extent of mountain glaciers during the most recent Pleistocene glaciation, (2) determine the time when glaciers started to retreat, (3) provide precise estimates of temperature and precipitation change during the last Pleistocene glaciation and subsequent period of ice retreat, (4) determine the extent and activity of modern ice in the park before it disappears, and (4) predict the effect of glacial resources in the park on water resources.
