Nelson Engineering of Jackson, Wyoming, as a sub-consultant to Tetra Tech, completed a floodplain study of Divide Creek, in the vicinity of St Mary, Montana. The scope of work was delineated under task order T1435100042, and issued under contract C1577070402. Glacier National Park is considering alternatives for staff housing in the St Mary Housing Area. The stated purpose for this study is “to provide Glacier National Park with a determination on the ground of the boundaries of the 100-year floodplain of Divide Creek in order to assess whether the housing units can be replaced or must be relocated”. The consulting team consisted of engineers, surveyors, hydrologists, and a fluvialgeomorphologist. The consulting team visited the site on May 20, 2010. The stream channel corridor and National Park Service (NPS) housing and maintenance area were inspected on May 20 and 21. Surveyed cross sections of the stream channel and a portion of the adjacent flood plain on the west were completed during May 20-24th. A summary of the hydrologists and fluvial-geomorphologists findings is contained in a Memorandum dated May 24, 2010 and included as Appendix 1.
