John Snowden was born on December 5th, 1900 in Huntington, WV to parents Kerry Snowden and Debbie [?] Snowden. He first reminisces about growing up in Harpers Ferry, WV, naming the shops and stores in the town. Next, he remembers graduating from Storer College and marrying his wife Ophelia Jackson, a fellow Storer student, in 1922. Then he recalls fires that burned down campus buildings and record floods that devastated the town. He talks more about his wife and children and his work on the C&O canal before returning to his days at Storer College. Next he discusses Heyward Shepherd, an African American man who died during John Brown’s Raid. This leads him to talk about his own grandfather, who was enslaved but bought his own freedom. Finally, Mr. Snowden and the interviewers discuss the number of people that come to visit Harpers Ferry.
