Fire effects monitoring data collected at Big Thicket National Preserve in the National Park Service Intermountain Region. The data were collected by Rice University (1990 - 1993) and the Preserve fire effects monitoring crew (2001 - 2015) primarily between March and December. Data collection protocols are described in Liu, et al. 1995 (A Study of Fire Effects on Vegetation in the Big Thicket) and Jeansonne, R.F. 2001 (Big Thicket National Preserve Fire Monitoring Plan). Data collected from forest plots include tree inventory to obtain density and basal area, fuel load using Brown's method for inventorying surface fuels and biomass, woody understory density, and herbaceous and shrub fuel cover. Photographs are taken from four locations in the plot to document change.
