Long-term monitoring of high-elevation campsites and sandbar morphology in the Colorado River ecosystem

Sandbar topography was measured at as many as 45 study sites on the Colorado River in Glen, Marble, and Grand Canyons from summer 1990 to October 2017. Campsite area measurements were added to surveys beginning in October 1998 at 37 of the monitoring sites. The results of sand bar and campsite surveys shows that high-flow experimental flow releases are effective at rebuilding and maintaining sandbars in the Colorado River corridor.
