A Sacred and Sonorous Desert

Haines-Eitzen K. A Sacred and Sonorous Desert. Research Permit and Reporting System

This is study of the environmental sounds of deserts and how they have shaped the religious imagination and experience. My focus is on a collection of historical texts, but I am making field recordings of water, wind, birds, thunder, etc., to complement the historical texts I am studying and writing about. The permit I received was for a series of recordings I made at Smith Ranch and Smith springs at the Guadalupe Mountains National Park in December, 2017.
