Bats hibernate in caves and mines and its assumed that bats use these features continent wide. In Wyoming bat surveys don’t find large numbers of bats. Studies show that some bats hibernate in other landscape features. Bats are present at DETO year round but there are no caves or abandoned mines suggesting bats hibernate on DETO. Geology present on DETO including rock crevices and talus fields may provide hibernation sites. This research will shed light hibernacula use by bats at DETO.
