A study of nesting chronology and reproductive success in Pigeon Guillemots on Alcatraz Island using video surveillance.. Research Permit and Reporting System
Pigeon guillemots (Cepphus columba) began nesting on Alcatraz in 1982, but their breeding ecology and reproductive success on the island has never been fully evaluated until recently. This project collected baseline data on the breeding phenology, reproductive success, and chick diet of pigeon guillemots on Alcatraz during the 2017 season. Fifteen active nest sites were monitored in 2017, breeding commenced on 24 May, chicks fledged at 40 days, and reproductive success was high.
