Here, we assess the effects of changes in the behavior of females previously treated with PZP on male behavior in the feral horse population on Shackleford Banks, NC. We found that increased female turnover led to increases in the number and escalation of male-male contests and the time males spent vigilant. There were no effects of female turnover on male-female aggression or reproductive behavior or of the surrounding ecology on male behavior.
