The purpose of this research is to characterize the extent of groundmass crystallization during the emplacement of basaltic lava flows of the Cinder Cone eruption. This work builds on research investigating co-emplacement crystallization in an effort to understand groundmass crystal proportions and to identify crystal morphologies that can be used to constrain cooling and emplacement rates of basalt lava flows.
