The main objective of the Rincon Creek monitoring effort is to improve our understanding of current ecological conditions, how ecological conditions change over time, the significance of these changes, the extent to which the changes in ecological conditions are related to human activities (particularly urbanization and increased groundwater pumping), and how the impacts from such activities can be eliminated or reduced. The intact, high quality riparian habitat that currently exists along middle Rincon Creek, coupled with the threat of bordering urbanization – particularly from groundwater pumping - has made this reach of Rincon Creek a conservation and research priority for Saguaro National Park.
