ABSTRACT: Section Arguti includes all of the native glandless highbush black-berries of the eastern United States and Canada, except for a few northern species which were treated in the rather arbitrary section Canadenses. The marks of separation between section Arguti and some of the other sections are at times rather vague. A few species included in the Arguti, such as Rubus kelloggii and R. uvidus, frequently tip-root and approach the mounders of section Flagellares, but they usually root, if at all, as soon as the tips reach the ground, and are not true trailers. Some, such as R. uvidus, R. andrewsianus. and R. prestonensis, have a few glands on some pedicels of some plants, and hence approach section Alleghenienses. Others, such as R. floridensis and R. originalis, are Arguti-Cuneifolii intermediates. R. jennisonii and R. persistens have the shiny, glabrous foliage of the Canadenses, but are too heavily armed for that section
