ABSTRACT: Etheostoma camurum is redescribed, figured, and a detailed synonymy is presented. Its close allopatric relative, E. chlorobranchium new species, is figured and described from the upper Tennessee River System where it apparently is restricted to upland streams. These species differ distinctly in life coloration of the males. Geographic variation in meristic details and coloration of the two species is considered. The evolutionary relationships and dispersal of the species in the sub- genus Nothonotus are discussed and a key to the identification of the species is presented. Two distinct groups are recognized in the subgenus and two species are considered as distant relatives
