ABSTRACT: During August, 1926, the writer spent some time studying the mycorhizal relations of the woody plants in the Great Smoky Mountains of North Carolina and Tennessee, and to a very limited extent also in the vicinity of Wilmington, North Carolina. In addition to observations made in the field, roots were collected from 16 different species, collections being made from several individuals of each species. These roots were later imbedded, sectioned, and studied microscopically.
