Outdoor Lighting in National Parks: Lessons Learned and Best Practices
Natural Sounds and Night Skies Division. 2018. Outdoor Lighting in National Parks: Lessons Learned and Best Practices. Fort Collins, Colorado
This document summarizes a Lighting Training Workshop hosted by the National Park Service in August of 2015. The training workshop provided an opportunity for NPS staff to learn about recent developments in LED and other adaptive lighting technologies that address the unique lighting concerns in national parks, including energy efficiency, costs, public safety, and both natural and cultural resource protection. The intention was to learn through joint fact finding and identify various options, technologies, and practices to help NPS achieve sustainable outdoor lighting objectives. Reaching a consensus among participants was not an objective of the workshop, and therefore this document does not contain a consensus statement or recommended actions.
