Study of the differences between the Hawaiian hoary bat (an endangered species) relative to the North American hoary bat (body size relative to wing size, skull length etc. and diet). Also looked at abundance and distribution, foraging strategies and prey selection, and character release (changes in a species resulting from a loss of competition from other species). Observation sites included Hawai Volcanoes National Park and Pu'uhonua o Honaunau Historical Park.
