The Buck Mountain Reverse Fault is rooted in Precambrian rocks; it dips 60° to the east. The Cambrian Flathead sandstone, an orthoquartzite (90%+ quartz), rests nonconformably atop the Precambrian. The Flathead’s stratigraphic position and relative isotropic mineralogy make the unit ideal for studying brittle deformation. We per-formed a kinematic and geochemical analysis of damage-zone features and provide insight into the conditions present during fracture development.
