Quantify rate of change in bottomland hardwood forest composition at the Barataria Preserve of Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve
Battaglia LL. Quantify rate of change in bottomland hardwood forest composition at the Barataria Preserve of Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve. Research Permit and Reporting System
The long-term five hectare forest monitoring plot at Barataria Preserve, established in 1998, was resampled in 2015. All trees previously tagged were revisited, assessed for survival, and if alive, measured (diameter at breast height - DBH). The majority of regeneration was vegetative, i.e., branching. There were very few saplings that had recruited into the 2.5 cm DBH class since the 2012 census. With the exception of Taxodium distichum, most populations of dominant tree species declined.
