Historic Structures Report, Part I, Johnson Farm Group, Class CC, Blue Ridge Parkway
Staff. 1964. Historic Structures Report, Part I, Johnson Farm Group, Class CC, Blue Ridge Parkway. Historic Structure Report. U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service
This section of the Historic Structures Report for the Johnson Farm Group concerns four remaining cabins of a pioneer mountain farm in the Peaks of Otter area of the Blue Ridge Parkway: Johnson Log Saddlebag House, Johnson Log Barn, Johnson Log Springhouse, and Johnson Log Meat House. The project was initiated by development in the Peaks of Otter area, bringing a hiking trail through this farm. The report proposes the installation of interpretive devices telling the story of the mountain farm. Rehabilitation was necessary to restore the structures to a safe condition and return them to a state indicative of the time the Peaks of Otter was a center of community activity. Construction plans, preliminary estimates, available historical data, and architectural information are included. This report includes the Project Construction Proposal and photographs of existing conditions.
