This Historic Structures Report for the Kelley School was prepared for the Blue Ridge Parkway as Volume 2 of a combined report for the structure, along with the Historic Resource Study. It includes an architectural description of the Kelley School, statement of significance, evaluation for proposed use of structures, and recommendations for interpretation and preservation. It also includes a site plan and measured drawings. The Kelley School is a one-story frame, two-room school building adjacent to the Blue Ridge Parkway. It was built in 1924 and altered for use as a dwelling and store beginning in 1939. Later remodeling changes and alterations were made in 1947 and 1972, yet many features of the original structure remained. The Kelley School is significant as a rare representation of a once-common educational building type in early twentieth-century Virginia, with features that suggest trends in building design and use.
