This SOP details the planning required for coastal shoreline monitoring. Prior to mapping the shoreline, a number of tasks need to be conducted. The topics covered in this SOP include: creating a survey window, identifying neap tides, determining satellite availability, checking for storm events, identifying potential resource issues, and points of contact. This SOP is based on the Northeast Coastal and Barrier Network Geomorphological Monitoring Protocol part I—Ocean Shoreline Position (Psuty et al. 2010).
