The primary focus of this document is on compiling an inventory of relevant historical/architectural material available within the Boston Naval Shipyard. Each section begins with notes that were compiled by architect Orville Carroll in the summer of 1973, followed by additions and/or corrections when required. A list of all significant photographs and drawings, as well as their locations, is included for each structure. A copy of any relevant published material associated with the specific structures is also included. There is a bibliography at the end of the document. The report also notes past surveys and site plans. The earliest existing site plans of the Yard were probably made between 1801 and 1803, by Osgood Carlton. The first visible system of codifying drawings occurred around 1870.
