This report documents an existing structure: Building 204, the Garage and Transportation Office. It was constructed as a private garage in 1926 and was scheduled for demolition in April 1979. A Class "C" architectural investigation was performed to document existing conditions of Building 204. The work included a study of historical material, including pertinent historical data, structural development, and comparative data. It also presents existing conditions, demolition recommendations, graphic documentation, and impact analysis of the proposed demolition. The most significant period of the navy yard's history was during World War II, when the facilities and work force expanded to meet the demands of the U.S. Navy. The structure was first leased by the Navy in 1941, and it served as the Garage and Transportation Office until the Boston Naval Shipyard closed in 1974.
