Standard Operating Procedure 1.2.15 Wadeable Stream Basin- and Segment-Scale Data Summary

McDonald JM, Gregory MB, Riley J. 2018. Standard Operating Procedure 1.2.15 Wadeable Stream Basin- and Segment-Scale Data Summary. Southeast Coast Network

The following standard operating procedure (SOP) outlines the procedure for calculating basin and segment-scale data for the sample reaches chosen as part of the Protocol for Monitoring Stream Habitat in Southeast Coast Network Parks. The purpose of this SOP is to ensure that basin- and segment-scale variables are calculated using the same methods and techniques, which will allow watersheds to be compared within and between parks. The characteristics calculated in this SOP are suggested by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) National Water-Quality Assessment (NAWQA) Stream Habitat Characterization Methods manual (Fitzpatrick et al. 1998) and tailored to target the objectives of the SECN stream habitat assessment and characterization protocol. This SOP assumes the user has at least an intermediate understanding of geographic information systems (GIS) and can use the statistical software R.
