Microbial Diversity in the Thermal Springs within Hot Springs National Park

Stone ET, Morran MD, Murray R. Microbial Diversity in the Thermal Springs within Hot Springs National Park. Research Permit and Reporting System

An investigation of the 16S rRNA sequences of four springs in the HSNP thermal system suggesting the presence of considerable diversity. This microbial diversity identified many Bacteria and Archaea in numbers on par with those observed in other thermal systems worldwide, irrespective of the capped or uncapped state of the springs. We recognize considerable biodiversity value in the springs and recommend NPS continues to preserve the biodiversity present in these thermal water systems.
