"This document is a first-year progress report of an ongoing study of marine mammal and seabird use of the central and northern California Outer Continental Shelf (OCS). It presents the most significant findings of the first year of field work, and brings up to date our program progress and the status of the data base. The study was undertaken by the Center for Coastal Marine Studies, University of California at Santa Cruz, in the Autumn of 1979 as part of the BLM Environmental Studies Program. Its purpose is to collect and present information on animal abundance and distribution needed for management decisions affecting oil and gas resource development on the central and northern California OCS. ... Field work began in January 1980 with semimonthly aerial surveys of the OCS area from Point Conception to the California/Oregon border." (Introduction). Includes findings on pinnipeds, sea otters, cetaceans, sea turtles, seabirds, and oil slicks. Page 11 indicates that there were 80-99 aerial survey visits over the northern California study area coastal component that encompasses the Point Reyes Peninsula and the coast just north of the peninsula.
