New Agrostis from the California coast

"The crests and precipitous slopes of the bluffs above the sea in Marin, Sonoma, and Mendocino Counties of California, are hazardous areas for the plant collector. They may, however, offer rewards in the form of new or little known taxa. In these areas, growing in a common habitat, are three endemic species of Agrostis: A. blasdalei Hitchc., A. californica Trin., and a third which is here described as new. In addition, a new variety of this latter species and one of A. blasdalei are described. None of the species treated here is a good competitor in the coastal grassland association. They are best developed on patches of nearly barren ground typical of the coastal bluffs and old stabilized dunes."
