From the executive summary: "We used a camera to monitor bicycle use of the Schoodic Loop Road in 2015. The Schoodic Loop Road was used by 4,187 bicyclists from May 1 - October 27, 2015. Mean daily bicycle use in September (n=38) was just as high as in August (n=39), reflecting the opening of the Schoodic Woods facility and the cross-peninsula and other bike paths. The highest daily use was 117 on September 5, Saturday of the Labor Day weekend. On this weekend vehicle traffic was extremely busy on Mount Desert Island and at Schoodic Peninsula as well. Over the same time, the Schoodic Loop Road camera detected 1,349 walkers and runners, 47 bicyclists riding the wrong way, and 156 recreational vehicles. Large walking groups from the Schoodic Institute campus and Schoodic Education Adventure program passed the camera site four times each in August and October. Even with the limited and highly variable bicycle count data from September and October 2013 and 2014, bicycle traffic increased substantially for these months in 2015. We attribute this to the opening of Schoodic Woods."
