The Shoreline Change Mapper (SCM) is a custom toolset developed for use in ArcGIS (10.2). The toolset incorporates GIS datasets created using USGS’s Digital Shoreline Analysis System (DSAS) to show bargraph-like diagrams of shoreline change. SCM is a set of Python (a programming language) scripts called through a custom toolbox in ArcMap. The purpose of the Mapper is to automate a process that otherwise requires substantial time and an understanding of visual basic programming in ArcGIS to complete. The goal of the project is to simplify and standardize the protocol for generating these maps, while still allowing regional GIS managers to control aspects of the design.
