This SOP describes guidelines for conducting sage grouse lek monitoring, outlining lek count methods established by the Idaho Department of Fish and Game (IDFG 2016), and describing modifications to lek count methods made in the UCBN Sage-Grouse Monitoring Protocol (Conway et al. 2018). This SOP also presents lek status designations used by IDFG. These lek monitoring guidelines provide clarification on the frequency of lek count visits, and maintaining lek routes that can be effectively surveyed as consistently as possible and that facilitate discovery of new unknown leks.
