Genomic Basis of Variation Between Coral Colonies in Bleaching Vulnerability

Genomic Basis of Variation Between Coral Colonies in Bleaching Vulnerability. Research Permit and Reporting System

In April 2015, we sampled four 1 cm^2 branch tips from each of 16 colonies in Ofu Lagoon, and conducted heat stress treatments on these branches. In no cases did sampling exceed 10% of coral colony area. Coral colonies varied widely in their responses to the same heat stress, suggesting that this population may harbor high levels of variation in heat tolerance. These samples were stored in RNA preservative solution and will be destructively processed during nucleic acid extraction.
