2015 Report On Grand Canyon Butterflies

Hannawacker R. 2015 Report On Grand Canyon Butterflies. Research Permit and Reporting System

Butterflies are excellent icons of wildness, and generally entertaining to nature lovers. Work from this project has helped create GRCA's Butterfly Counts, National Moth Week Events, and butterfly ID publications for employee use. Periodic inventory of insects allows for the measurement of GRCA's changing climate, with shifts in phenology such as butterflies emerging as adults earlier in the year, species from warmer climates becoming residents, and heat intolerant species become extirpated.
