Non-Structural Carbohydrates in Quercus stellata across the Oklahoma Precipitation Gradient

Rodriguez AG. Non-Structural Carbohydrates in Quercus stellata across the Oklahoma Precipitation Gradient. Research Permit and Reporting System

Abstract Non-structural carbohydrates (NSC) are mobile carbohydrates that are essential for plant growth and survival. It is thought that climate, especially precipitation, can have an affect on NSC concentration. I set out to determine the effect of precipitation on Quercus stellata NSC along the decreasing east to west precipitation gradient of Oklahoma. I found that precipitation does have an effect on NSC, but not in a uniform way. Overall, there were differences in NSC between sites.
