Geomorphic and Biogeochemical Functions of Beaver Meadows. Research Permit and Reporting System
Beaver meadows are wet valley bottoms in which branching and rejoining channels, ponds, and wet meadows create a spatial mosaic of microenvironments. These meadows slow the downstream passage of flood waters and retain sediment and organic matter. The accumulation of sediment facilitates surface and subsurface water exchange, as well as microbial processing of nutrients.
