Investigation of prebiotic analogue conditions for the origin of life
Deamer DW and Damer BF. Investigation of prebiotic analogue conditions for the origin of life. Research Permit and Reporting System
The origin of life occurred ~4 billion years ago under conditions that we do not fully understand. For the purposes of the research proposed here, we make two assumptions about the early Earth environment. The first is that there was a source of amphiphilic molecules resembling lipids, and that these were capable of self-assembly into membranous structures. Our second assumption is that there were ubiquitous hydrothermal fields in the prebiotic environment in which air-water-mineral interf
