Quagga Mussel Specimen Request

Gomez E. Quagga Mussel Specimen Request. Research Permit and Reporting System

Early detection is critical for triggering rapid response programs to quarantine and eradicate invasive species. Environmental DNA (eDNA) methods have been recently demonstrated to be highly sensitive for detecting aquatic macroorganisms. Environmental DNA is produced by aquatic species through shedding of skin cells and other excretions; this DNA can be collected in water samples and identified to species through quantitative PCR or next-generation sequencing.
